An eye opening look at the world if it were basically shrouded in paranoia and socialism. It explores Winston and his relationship with Julia who on the outside looks like the conformist everyone is. When they begin an illicit relationship, they put themselves in danger and under the scrutiny of O'Brien who isn't what Winston believes him to be.
The book is somewhat gruesome at times, but the truth it contains is someone everyone should read. Some countries actually lived like this (Romania, East Germany) and makes one wonder whether repression of truth can truly unify a country deep down, or will it just receive lip service from the people it seeks to enslave.
