It's always good to balance facts & stories.
Is this book part of a con job being done on the unaware public?
Maybe? Make up your own mind by balancing your read from the facts published on http://wm3truth.com
The Psychological profile of Damien Echols makes a good starting point on that page.

One of the best books I have ever read. Damien is intellegent and optimistic, despite the horror in which he is living. I would recommend this book to all those curious about The West Memphis Three, and to anyone interested in the predjudicial and cupprupt legal system.

Written by an early 30's death row inmate (since age 19)who had little schooling, and in his own words - it is a very easy, enlightening read. I would assume that most people who buy this book know about the WM3 and are sympathetic, but this helps but the characters into perspective. We all know that there is no evidence at all to have convicted him, but this book helps understand the background as to why they were considered suspects. There is no doubt to me (and this was reassured after reading this book) that the 3 would have become blights on society and the welfare system had they not gone to jail - so it's a bittersweet read to see what they have done with their lives since being in jail. Due to Damien's dark gothic looks, he gets most of the atention - but this book makes you feel sorriest for Jason as it was Damien's arrogance that convicted Jason (guilt by association). Great read.
