Generally agreed to be one of the most important contributors to Art Nouveau, the Czech artist Alphonse Mucha was trained, celebrated and lived most of his life in Paris. His unforgettably iconic images of Sarah Bernhardt and others embody the spirit of the fin de siecle. But underneath his successful career as an artist and poster designer lay a passionate Slav nationalist whose most important and long neglected works are still being painstakingly restored and exhibited in the Czech republic. This book is the first comprehensive overview of his life and work and is published in association with the Mucha Museum in Prague.
About the Author
Sarah Mucha is an art historian, married to the artist's grandson; she lives in London.

I had been searching for a quality book on Mucha for a while before ordering this one and I was not at all disappointed. I have seen reviews where people have commented on it's price at various retailers but compared to other books on Mucha that I have seen, it is well worth it. The book is full of large, high quality photos of both his well known advertising illustrations and lesser known works including illustrations of day to day items and paintings. Architecture and sculptures are also covered. The photos are complimented with interesting details about Mucha's work and influences over the different periods of his life and art.

This is a beautiful book full of colourful glossy pictures. It not only covers Mucha's famous lithographs but includes his lesser known paintings, pencil and pastel works. There is not a lot of biographical information however if you wish to have a small but diverse collection of Mucha's work then this book is excellent.
Considering the price of the book it is a little smaller (in terms of number of pages) than I would have liked, however it has the appearance of quality and if you love looking at the pictures then this is fine.
