An oftimes useful guide to help with writing, and how to do it correctly, and formally. Given that this is pretty old some of the usage and advice is archaic and can be ignored because of that, but other general advice and information is quite good.
Well worth a look for writers, journalists, or those that have essays etc. inflicted on them as assignments.
I read this after Stephen King recommended it in 'On writing.' A lot ofthe skills are very valuable and ones that will be used in my writing, but some of the techniques are outdated. Its a useful tool for very fomal writing, not so much for the stylistic one who likes to bend a few rules here and there.
A very useful book to have around for anyone that wants to write clearly, especially in academia. One of the charms of this book is that it is a rather small book but has distilled the essence of good writing and explains it with well chosen examples. Highly reccomended for PhD students...students of any of kind really, especially as less and less grammer and style is being taught in schools this is an invaluable resource.
