About the Author

Growing up eating fresh picked carrots, tomatoes and peas in her mother's gardens, and frolicking amongst the forest, hasled author Emily Grace Willis on a path of gardening, wild harvesting and the study of medicinal plants. Winding up in Skagway, Alaska where she lives year round with her family, she is an active dog walker, tree-hugger, organic gardener, and mom. This story is inspired by her son and of all things green and growing.

Illustrator Courtenay Birdsall Clifford was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. With two artists for parents, she got an early start in the arts.Now working primarily in a blend of watercolor and acrylic, she finds unending inspiration in the Alaska landscape (be it vast mountain ranges or wee garden beds) and seeks to capture the lush textures and vivid colors of nature. She and her husband now happily live, work and play in Skagway.
