About the Author

Jeff Patterson is the President, Founder, and Technical Director of the Internet Underground Music Archive (IUMA). He studied Computer Science at UC Berkeley from 1991 to 1993 and at UC Santa Cruz from 1993 to 1994. While at UC Berkeley he studied at the Center for New Music and Technology (CNMAT), looking for some way to combine his love of music with his knowledge of computers. Since starting IUMA in 1993, he has been named by Newsweek as one of 50 people to watch for the future, by Websight as a "Cyberstar", and has been interviewed about music and the Web by MTV, CNN, NBC News, and many other television stations and publications.

Ryan Melcher was the senior multimedia specialist at IUMA (Internet Underground Music Archive), where for over three years he integrated all forms of media into pages and sites on the web. Audio is his primary medium medium, having encoded over 10 formats and 1000 audio files.In addition, Ryan contributed to an article published in the MecklerMedia's Web Developer Magazine on incorporating multimedia files in Web sites. He was also largely responsible for keeping IUMA staff and management abreast of the new technologies.
