Probably the best book on this particular subject currently in print. A comprehensive investigation into an almost mythical theme, that combines a scientific approach to hard facts, with an understanding of it's folkloric importance to certain aspects of human culture and legend. If you can't accept the idea of giant predators lurking in the backroads of civilization, you may well change your mind after reading this.

Ok I will confess I am such nerd that I read this for fun and for fun only. If you don’t have to do an assignment or actually work with these beautiful animals then reading this book will need to be a labour of love. This really is a fascinating read and I learnt a lot, it can get a little technical so I wouldn’t recommend it for young readers.
