I really wanted to like this series but sadly I stopped after the first two, I kind of found them rather dark and I didn't much like any of the main characters except maybe Stefan but I even found him a bit frustrating. Perhaps as the series continues they may have some redeeming qualitiies, so sorry to those who love it, this is my humble opinion and I hope this doesn't put anyone off. Give it a go perhaps now that I have said that I didn't love it you won't expect much and then be totally blown away??!! Weirder things have happened!

I like many am a Twihard and wanted more vampire stories to read. Im enjoying Vampire Diaries its not as good as twilight but still an enjoyable read, its also an easy Read just like the Twilight Saga books. Ive also been watching the TV series of Vampire Diaries over the internet and have been REALLY enjoying that. Just beware the books and the TV Series are way different, There still the same type of story lines just some of the people are a bit differnt and the relationships are different. I Still recommed reading the books.

These books are suited to teenagers and explores Elena, a girl in high school, spoilt and selfish but likeable and her relationship to twin vampire brothers Stefan and Damon. LJ Smith attempts to explore characters that aren't simply good or evil in the context of a day-to-day life of a teenager. The story, is very easy to follow but an enjoyably simple read. Though it contains two novels in one book each story is only about two hundred pages long.

I really enjoyed books 1 & 2. The characters are great and I look forward to reading books 3 & 4. These books are well written and I look forward to reading more from LJ Smith. I know alot of people we read these comparing them to Twilight Saga but these were written first and to truly enjoy them you must seperate this series to the Twilight series.

Surprisingly well written, good pace, and interesting characters. One of those books you churn through really fast and then want more (which works out well since it's a series). More enjoyable to read than the Twilight series, though it starts out in a quite similar setting (this series came first though). I'm looking forward to reading books 3 and 4.

The first two books in this Vampire series has, suspense, romance, passion and two gorgeous blood thirsty vampires! Great characters and suspenseful plots make for great reading. The TV series that is based on these books is absolutely FANTASTIC - probably even better that the books - which is really saying something!

Aimed originally at teens but these are enjoyable books for anyone who enjoys the latest vampire craze. They are very clean and very easy to read. Not complex. It can be hard to get into as you may have to readjust your reading to the thrillers and r l stine we all haven't read in eons, but once youre halfway through the first story you find you just want to read more about these characters. Stefhan is a very enjoyable character, albeit very sad and it is impossible not to feel sorry for him through the whole course. Elena is not a heroine to begin with but a usual spoilt and self centered high school girl, which in real life, a lot of them are. It is interesting to watch how Elena and Stefhan change each other through L J Smiths lovely series. Give it a try

I can't believe I didn't discover these books back in 1991! Nevertheless, it's not to late, thanks mainly to the revinvigoration with the new TV show 'based' on LJ Smith's fabulous books. You shouldn't expect the books to be like the TV show, they're as different as vampires and werewolves! But each stands on their own merits & storylines and I personally love both. A fast-paced action (much faster than the likes of Twilight), fun-filled adventure every "teenager at heart" may enjoy.
