Reviews

"Goyito, a gleefully fatalistic and, when opportunity allows, priapic dwarf, personifies Spain as a modern replacement for Cervantes's hapless Don Quixote in this blisteringly funny black comedy which won the prestigious Premio Ojo Critico award... In Goyito, Fernando Royuela has created a giant who will live on in this Diogenine barrel of laughs. The translation by Peter Bush is near flawless."-Times Literary Supplement; "This is a vastly entertaining tale told by a remarkably resilient raconteur. Gregorio believes in fate the way some people believe in God, and while he believes his own path is set, it doesn't disrupt the drama and tension of the tale... A gonzo record of a long life." -Kirkus Reviews; "A Bad End is a vivid, gritty, challenging read."-Bookblast; "The burlesque echoes the greatest Spanish classics, from Quevedo to Camilo Jose Cela." M. Garcia Posada, El Pais; "Spiritual brother of Gunter Grass's Tin Drum, with a grotesque, Tarantino-like use of violence." Ricardo Senabre, ABC; "Fernando Royuela establishes himself as an outstanding figure in contemporary Spanish literature." Alexie Lorca, Lire
