This book was both deeply disturbing and strangely comforting. As a woman who has grown up surrounded by the type of propaganda Wolf makes so clear in this well-researched, well-organised book I have understood the pressures she describes on some level all my life. Far from the discomfort I feel reading some feminist works, everything in this book resonated and made me sad; much more than "Fat is a Feminist Issue" this book sounded true and real to my own experiences. I recommend this book to any and every woman who has ever debated between comfortable shoes and those that look good, or who has agonized over clothing for an event to which all the men wore suits, or who has had to stay up ten more minutes to take her make-up off.
