– Customer review on 15/09/2008 Based on the first three quarters of the book, I'd give it 4/5, but it gets a bit slipshod towards the end, so it ends up as a 3. Also, it's a bit too short.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great read for anyone interested in the history of one of the more famous - yet fame rejecting - bands on the planet and one of the more enigmatic front-men. It's just that the fan will be disappointed with the detail from about Binaural onwards.
Before that, there's plenty of commentary from the band on the albums, songs and their various deeds. The book doesn't try to hide the various frailties of the band or their predecessors in the "Seattle Scene", nor is it too fawning in the commentary of the miscellaneous good turns towards the fans.
The recount of the Ticketmaster fiasco is particularly interesting.
Recommended for a PJ fan.
