Charles Upham was the great New Zealand war hero. He was one of the few people in history to have won the Victoria Cross twice, setting new standards of personal heroism during World War II. A quietly spoken sheep farmer from Canterbury, at the front in Crete and North Africa, he destroyed enemy machine-gun posts single-handed and led a frontal assault on enemy guns. He then spent the rest of the war in prisoner-of-war camps, including the famous Colditz Castle, where he made life a misery for the German guards, constantly trying to escape.

Great Book about a Great New Zealander
Well written very readable telling of the tale of a great Kiwi in a style that suits its subject
Hard to imagine anyone being disappointed with this one.
I read this book when thinking of joining the New Zealand Army as an officer. It took me from uncertainty to determination to be as great a leader as Sir Charles Upham. Failing at the Officer Selection Board, turns out i don't have the physical drive, but this book has still made me work harder to become a great leader. Upham remains my hero and my inspiration today, a year later.
Even as an avid reader, I can say this ook changed my life.
One of the best reads I've had. An outstanding book. Charles Upham is a truly remarkable man and gentleman. Brings a tear to the eye and makes you proud to be a kiwi! This is a must read!
This was a well written book. "Mark Of The Lion" is one of the best biographies I've ever read. Chales Upham is an inspiration to all and Im sure anybody could be inspired by this wonderful book. Reccomended for anybody else that knows who Charles Upham is. Buy it, a real treat to read.
