The memoir from the legendary Guns N Roses guitarist reveals, with raw-edged candor, his life and times. As raucous and edgy as his music, this book sets the record straight and tells the real story as only Slash can. Photos throughout.

This book is a great, vivid history of Slash. He was very candid and truthful and there were a lot of interesting things I found out. The earlier section of the book talks a lot about him and Steven Adler, the original Gunners drummer. I never realized that they were such great buddies growing up together in LA. I like the fact that even though a lot has happened between him and Axl, he says a lot of really nice things about him. The thing I disliked about this book was the fact that Slash came across as a little bit arrogant and his and his wife Perla's drug use did not seem an overly big deal to him until he started doing heroin. I also thought the fact that he cheated on his first wife Renee the day before they were to get married was really horrible of him. Especially since it was with Perla who would go on to be his second wife.
This is the usual dope fiend, rock n' roll guitar player's story. Drink the usual half gallon of booze, load up with coke and heroin, hallucinate, run around looking for the little green men with a gun and passout. Then he starts that round all over again the next day. However, it is an unbelievably good read and is well-written. Slash and Nikki Sixx are brothers of the drug world and experienced the same drug induced nightmares. I first read the Heroin Diaries by Nikki and then Slash. How either one of these guys are still alive I do not know. The book flows with good stories and Slash does not leave any of the gory stuff out. I highly recommend it if you want to know everything about Slash from his childhood to the Guns N' Roses era to the present with nothing left out. You will not be disappointed.
This book is perfect for not only the GNR fans out there, but also fans of retro rockers in general, just for the seemingly endless tales of debauchery and notoriety which come part and parcel with being around the LA scene on "The Strip" back in those days. It's because of these tales that I found this book very hard to put down.
Slash is candidly open and pulls no punches with his opinions, so it was surprising that he didn't really cut loose on the well documented relationship between himself and Axl. Although you get an idea as to why the further you read on in, once situations begin to repeat themselves and personality patterns start to form.
After reading The Dirt, The Heroin Diaries and now Slash, you really have to question how on earth Nikki Sixx and his affectionate "little bro" Slash are still alive to this day, the amount of drugs they pumped into their systems was unbelievable.
The only moment in the book where I felt Slash was not telling the whole story and being overly hypocritical was when his best friend at the time, Todd Crew, overdosed on heroin in a NY hotel. Apparently Slash was monitoring his intake as he had been drinking heavily for the past day and claims that he'd done twice if not more the amount of heroin Todd had yet he was fine. Wouldn't it have been better to remove him from the situation altogether?
Anyway, Slash has been the most insightful view into Guns N' Roses that I have ever read.
It's not quite as good as The Dirt for shock value, but definitely a better run through of recollected memories especially his early teens to when Guns first formed.
This book is ultimately the best value read I have ever purchased.
This is a great read. Loved it from start to finish. Its a facinating and honest story of his life to date, he straight-up tells you what he thinks about himself, his bands, other bands and music etc. The book was hard to put down. Also contains a heap of pictures, black and white throughout as well as colour glossy's in the centre.
As a die hard GnR/Axl fan, reading Slash really opened my eyes to the background behind the band's breakup. It also gave a great insight into one of the true guitar rock gods of today. It's full of comments on other bands of the 80s and Slash's opinions are clear (he really hates Great White and glam metal). He is candid on the Axl/Slash band quit - but you get a sense that there is more to the story that will probably never be revealed. Perfect for a GNR / VR fan.
This was a very interesting read, very well written with great colour photos. This was the fastest I have ever read in my life, couldn't put it down. This book made me realise things aren't always as they seem and gives you a good insight into why the band broke up from slash's point of veiw and why they haven't reformed. A good read for any real GNR FAN!
