Elizabeth shares her own personal journey back to herself.. the happy person she needs to be - to move on from an unhappy marriage and the 'transition' guy.
Its a wonderfully written memoir that leaves you feeling uplifted and hopeful.
Very candid and open about her failings and flaws, a human story that I have recommended to pretty much all my friends.
I saw the oprah special on this book about 3 months ago with Elizabeth Gilbert -3 years after this book was published and ordered it straight away as I wanted to know what 'the blue light' etc was and I liked her although on the show all her answers seemed a bit rehearsed. But her writing is not, it was a great read. I think warm is the perfect word to describe her writing as she instantly feels like someone you know and there a few lightbulb moments in there for yourself as well. You can read it all at once like I did or in 3 parts slowly like my friend as they all very separate stories and she absorbs you so much in the moment of where she is at, you completely forget that she was pigging out on pizza in Italy by the time you get to Bali!
A good easy read that has a calming pace, despite the journey of the authors' inner turmoil and finding resolution. It's always easier to read about someone else's problems than to try and solve your own. Liz writes with warmth and humour, but also with sincerity and humility. She outlines her own personal journey of self discovery and finding inner happiness. She achieves this through travel, mentoring, hard work, food, meditation, and finding divinity. She manages to do all this while being single, having no dependents, or financial worries. She spends her darkest and loneliest moments crying on the bathroom floor. We all have a personal journey to enjoy and survive. I've had mine. I was glad to discover that I am not the self indulgent, ego centric, selfish, materialistic person I could have been. My journey was raising 4 children, working, paying back a mortgage, staying happily married. A very different story to mine but fun to read.
Best book I read for the year. Written so personally, like recieving and invitation into the authors' life. Sometimes raw and very honest. Refreshing to read something so real. Found it to be inspiring.
This book is for woman who want to get out of something that is taking control of their life, this has three steps to being happy again. The author of this book has written about how she was married to a man that she didnt want to be, when her husband started talking about children she finally had had enough, she travelled across the globe and by eating, praying and loving herself she finally found her love and happiness
