The Frances books are a children's classic and rightly so. If you didn't discover Frances in your own childhood, meet her now and share her with the next generation. They will thank you for it.
( I am a primary school teacher who was introduced to Frances in my own childhood by my teacher - without a doubt, Frances is simply adored by all young boys and girls who have ever met her.)
Frances is a highly spirited young badger who in this book, is deciding whether to give her younger sister a birthday present. Russell Hoban's great skill as a story teller is that he is able to take seemingly simple situations and weave a story not only of immense charm, but also full of issues and conundrums relevant to 5-7 year olds. The illustrations are also superb and unforgettable.
This book is a must have in your book collection - you will cheer for Frances!
