One of those books that leaves you stunned for days. I can't wait for my year 9 class to read it. Definitely a powerful reflection on the horrors of the holocaust.

An absolutely incredible novel. I would give it more than a 5-star rating if I could. I think that this book should be compulsory reading for all high school students. The setting is World War II in Germany and the story is told through the eyes of the 9 year old son of a Commandant of Auschwitz concentration camp. I found Bruno's naive misunderstanding of the situation highlighted just how unfathomable the atrocities committed during the war really were. I think that this novel helps us to remember the human dimension to the historical facts and figures that tend to recall from this terrible time. Highly recommended, but keep a box of tissues handy. Not recommended for readers under 12-13, as there needs to be some general knowledge of WWII.

An excellent book. Very easy to read. I read it in 2 days, just couldn't put it down! Plus I like how it's told through the insight of a 9 year old boy.
