A comprehensive illustrated history of the most famous names in British tractor history, from very earliest days to more recent times, compiled by a leading name in tractor renovation and restoration
Ben Phillips started restoring vintage tractors when he was 12 when his father bought a 1949 Ferguson TEA20. Together they stripped it down and repaired the seized engine with very little knowledge, but it was finished in a matter of months. When he left school aged 16 he bought a 1958 Series One Land Rover which he used for a year until it failed its MOT, then a few years later he stripped it down and gave it a complete re-build. Shortly after he restored his second tractor, a 1957 Massey Ferguson 35, which taught him everything from body to engine repairs. Today he is still based in a Worcestershire Village with a fully equipped workshop and concentrates on all areas of tractor restoration - sometimes to sell or mainly restorations for other people. He is also a regular contributor to Tractor magazine, and is well known to the vintage agricultural vehicle community.
