"'Brokeback Mountain' does some of the best things a story can do. It abolishes the old West cliches, excavates and honors a certain kind of elusive life, then nearly levels you with the emotional weight at its center."

Highly recommended short story! Of course, the short story by Annie Proulx is wha gave the inspiration for the screenplay of Brokeback Mountain. If you liked the movie, you will love the short story. The story is less in depth than the film but it gives so much character into Ennis and Jack that you really see the original character they were supposed to be, shown in Annie Proulx's mind.

Brokeback Mountain might be short, but it's a powerful little story that will stick with you long after you get to the end. It's well written and very hard to put down -that is until you get to the end. The movie is fantastic too. Very well done. -with some of the best young actors in the business. Heath Ledger is amazing as the brooding Ennis, Jake Gyllenhaal is great as Jack Twist and Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway do a great job as their long-suffering wives.
