In a new and totally revised edition of his groundbreaking bestseller The E-Myth, Gerber completely revolutionizes the idea of starting, growing, and maintaining a small business.
From The Publisher:
In this first new and totally revised edition of the 150,000-copy underground bestseller, The E-Myth, Michael Gerber dispels the myths surrounding starting your own business and shows how commonplace assumptions can get in the way of running a business. He walks you through the steps in the life of a business from entrepreneurial infancy, through adolescent growing pains, to the mature entrepreneurial perspective, the guiding light of all businesses that succeed. He then shows how to apply the lessons of franchising to any business whether or not it is a franchise. Finally, Gerber draws the vital, often overlooked distinction between working on your business and working in. your business. After you have read The E-Myth Revisited, you will truly be able to grow your business in a predictable and productive way.

very readable and clear for a non-business person. I found that the concepts were clearly explained in a narrative way and I could relate them to other areas in my life as well as business practise.
Yeah, the narrative style does little for me, but the concept is a good one. He basically says most people start businesses because they are technically good at something (the book uses the example of making pies). Being technically good at making pies, doesn’t make you good at running a business.
My key lesson was the Turn Key Revolution which basically means you systemize everything and act like a franchise.
An easy read, but don't let this put you off the strong message that Gerber gets across. It's all about making customers happy and how to do this without reducing your profits. It's twin messages are to learn how to delegate effectively so as to empower employees and how to provide awesome customer service. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve their business, from small to not-so-small enterprises.
Ack - and there was sooo much hype! As it was told in a narrative rather than step by step, it took ages for Gerber to get to the point. There was some good stuff in there but it was hidden amongst his convoluted writing style and waffling on about the spirit.
Don't revisit the myth; just read the original again!
