Whether it's The Fool cat with one foot on a railing fence (probably a verandah) and one paw reaching out to grab the branch of a tree, with no thought to the possibility of falling; or the two intertwined cats (a black and a white cat) suggesting the Yin/Yang symbol and therefore balance in the Temperance card; or the ginger paw in the Ace of Wands reaching out towards a coiled snake, suggesting a fearlessness in the grasping of an opportunity; or the tabby paw reaching out into some tall grass and grabbing a rat by its tail in the Ace of Pentacles, grabbing something at ground level (earth level) but nonetheless grabbing an opportunity; or the two black and white cats rubbing lovingly against each other in the Two of Cups, suggestive of new love: in all these images and in all the cards, illustrator Debra Givin has created a delightful new deck which embraces a sound understanding both of tarot and of cats, using the expressiveness of cat body lannguage and behviour to provide new interpretations that are easily understood by anyone familiar with the established Waite-Coleman Smith interpretations but undoubtedly just as easily grasped by someone new to tarot who loves and understands cats. A delightful new deck!
