When Daine is summoned by the wolf pack that saved her life a year earlier, she knows she has to go. She and Numair travel to Dunlath Valley to answer the call. But when they arrive, Daine realizes with a shock that it's not just the animals whose lives are threatened; people are in danger too. Dunlath's rulers have discovered black opals in their valley and are dead set on mining the magic these stones embody. Daine learns that Dunlath's lord and lady plan to use this power to overthrow King Jonathan -- even if it means irreversibly damaging the land and killing their workers.
On a mission to save both her animal friends and her human ones, Daine has to master her wild magic in order to fight for the kingdom and triumph over the would-be usurpers.

Daine has been called away from the palace and the riders by her wolf pack brothers and sisters, who need her help to save the valley that is their home. She soon finds out though, that she is not just to save the valley for the wolf pack she loves, but for the humans and immortals that call the valley their home too!
a brilliant work. I thought this book, in particular the characters of the wolves, was masterly.I enjoyed both Daine’s trials learning to control her new talents, and her improved relationship with Numair. I loved the amazingly evil Yolane and Tristan, found Daine’s animal companions interesting, and quickly grew to like Maura. I recommend you read it – actually, I recommend you buy it, it’s that good!
We now see Daine as a confident young woman. Together with her new charge Kit, her ever-present horse Cloud and her teacher Numair, we see Daine as both more human and more in tune with animals than ever before. In this book, Daine has finally learnt to controll her powers; and her pat. She is blossoming because of it. Almost a stand-alone book, this novel adds a wholer new dimention to the series. In this, we see Daine learn how to cope with new people, new powers and new situations. And learn a little more about Numairs' murky past- a revalation that asks more questions than it answers.
This is the second installment of the Immortals series.
Diana is summoned by her past, more specifically the wolf pack who took her in when bandits burnt her from her home and the villagers turned on her. Diana knows she must go, but when the wolves start acting like humans Diana knows she's in trouble and just to add to it. The Badger pays another visit. . .
Join Daine and Numair once again in the second book of The Imortals Quartet. This time Daine travels back to where it all began to meet up with the pack of wolves that she once called family. The pack need her help to translate to the humans of the area that what they are doing is harming the animals and all wildlife.
Daine says that she will try, but how can she put across the views to humans when they don't want to listen?
In the course of the translating, Daine uncovers a plot that could mean the end of the kingdom of Tortal - will she get word to Numair in time?
The second book in the Immortals Quartet was just as gripping as the first for me. In this book you grow with Daine, and go on her adventure with a pack of wolves. With her growing her magic grows and she now learns how to enter animals mind. Although a little slower then the first, this book is just as good and continues on with the wonderful story in the first.
The second book in the Immortals series, this one starts off a bit slower, and there are moments when you wonder if the author herself knows where the story is going. For a while there, nothing really happens, but then it picks up and you're glad you picked up the book. Despite the few boring parts, I read this in about two days. Good books, good author.
On the edge of your seat, suspenseful, with mind blowing twist and turn this book is well worth a read for any avid reader… No collection is complete without this title amongst it and one you read into the first few pages you will not be able to put it down. 5 stars!!!!
