While not as good as Charlie and the chocolate Factory (it doesn't seem to have the same magic) it is still a fairly good sequel. it shows what happens directly after Charlie and the Chocolate factory. The shoot up into space accidentally, and poor mr Wonka has to deal with the sharp tongued grandma Josephine who has taken a dislike to what, to her, seems like a madman.
I was dissapointed when i read this book - its not nearly as good as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Charlie having won the Chocolate factory now embarks on another adventure. I think the first book was so good - it just didn't compare, and I found myself getting bored.
a roald dahl classic, intended for children, but i at the age of 18 still find this book really good, and so do many adults, if u didnt read roald dahl as a child, then chances are u wont like it if u read it now and ur an adult, he is an excellent writer, perfect for younger people
being a roald dahl fan, particularly of witches, reading charlie and the great glass elevator after reading charlie and the chocolate factory, dahls genius still gobsmakals me. it is birlliant, the man is brillant, his imagination, guess what? its brillant, so dont be discouraged by the fact its set in an elevator, its pretty amazing what it can do.
I do agree that the quality of this story does not match the first. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ended quite well, and this is not a neccessary sequel. The grandparents are dull and always complaining and the parents are always nervous and worrying. I did actually find it rather boring, which is a huge surprise with one of Roald Dahl's books. It is a good little story in its way, but coming after the first amazing book, it loses most of its charm.
Apart from the fact this book is written by the wonderful Roald Dahl, it doesn't even nearly come close to the first title 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. I was very disappointed when I read this book and felt as if it was written just for the sake of continuing on with sweet little Charlie and his life. I personally think Dahl should have quit while he was ahead.
