Dracula appeared at a time when the public was fascinated by vampires. An immediate success, it was considered so terrifying that critics recommended ‘…hiding it from children and nervous adults’! It has subsequently been hailed as the ultimate vampire novel, the most successful horror novel in the English language and even a masterpiece.
