if there is one complete box set to own in your life, this is it. although anne of green gables (the first book in the series) is probably the most recognisable by name, it is the subsequent sequels that are truely the gems by author lucy maud montgomery. you can not afford to miss this
Everyone loves Anne, from the first time we saw her as a talkative, red haired little girl to the last time we see her, as a competent mother whose children are all leaving home... Anne is one of the best heroine's there is, well, if you can overlook the fact that she's Canadian!
Anne of Green Gables is my most cherished book; when I first read it, it took me into another world, the beautiful world of Anne Shirley. It is clean, funny, heart-warming and romantic. L.M.Montgomery created a lovely story when she penned Anne of Green Gables that is good for both younger and older readers. Anne is fiesty, blunt, prone to blunders, honest, and has much ambition that is the drive of the wonderful stories in these books.
I love 'Anne of Green Gables' - it's a fantastic story for kids and adults alike. The first three books are, to my mind, the best; the young Anne is spunky, funny and prone to falling into all sorts of bizarre situations (my favourite is the time she stands on a neighbour's hen house roof - while said neighbour is out - and falls through, becoming trapped; it starts to rain and she has to stay there, holding an umbrella over her head, until the neighbour returns!). The older Anne is a more serious character, and takes her role as doctor's wife perhaps a bit more seriously than modern women are comfortable with.
