– Customer review on 20/11/2007 'A Countess Below Stairs' is a wonderful book by Eva Ibbotson, who is also the author of such children's books as 'Which Witch?' and 'Dial a Ghost'. Aimed more at an older audience than her children's books, 'A Countess Below Stairs' tells the story of Russian Countess Anna Grazinsky who takes a job as a housemaid at Mersham, the home of the Westerholme's, following the Russian Revolution. This story is beautifully written. It has one of the funniest scenes ever written which literally had me laughing out loud. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a love of romance and fairytale endings. Wonderfully emotional without ever being soppy.
