– Customer review on 21/03/2008 These last two books in Pike's vampire series are really good. Some parts of this book were really scary and a few parts so sad that they can make you cry. You feel sorrow for the main character Alisa the vampire, as she was torn apart from her human family 5000 years ago, and when she is telling her story, she keeps going back and forth over the many centuries. It was not her choice to become a vampire through the Yaksha in the village. Alisa is so old and has of course a huge emotional baggage - who wouldn't if they lived for 5,000 years! She was even there when Christ died. She has everything that may appear on the surface to be life success - immortality, beauty and brains, yet she has been through so much pain. These books are extremely original near masterpieces. The ending is really good but also makes you sad. Although she does not fully embrace her vampire self fully, who would Alisa be if she had not gone through what she did.
