The Wingtersmith, a feelingless, ancient god who is in charge of summoning winter, is in love. The trouble is that the object of his affections, Mis Tiffany Aching, is acting a trifle - cold.
But then, she is in a happy pen pals relationship with Roland, the first Knight in Shining Armour to be too scared to run away.
Still, the Witersmith isn't giving up - and all's fair in ove and war...
Of the Tiffany books, this was the weakest, but even then it still deserves 4 stars! Tiffany is growing more familiar with 'headology' in Granny speak, and her relationship with the Nac Mac Feegles is again an ace up her sleeve. Most young girls have boys who like them, but Tiffany is probably the first to have an elemental force with a crush! A rollicking read, perfect for younger readers who will (undoubtably) become true Discworld fans in time.
Wintersmith concludes the wonderful tradition of Terry Pratchett's best childrens' trilogy to date, which began with A Hat Full of Sky. Unlike the 'Johnny' series, the 'Tiffany Aching' books are set within the framework of Discworld - with familiar witches, the ever-amusing pictsies, and a touch of Death thrown in - and as such are a perfect introduction for young people into the Discworld Universe.
I have to admit that I never really got in to the Tiffany Aching stories as much as those Discworld stories based on other Pratchett characters like Rincewind, the City Watch or the other witches. I enjoyed this book for the usual Terry Pratchett humour but it’s been three novels now and I still don’t care that much about the Tiffany Aching character.
This is the third Tiffany Aching / Nac Mac Feegle novel or the umpteenth "Witches" novel depending on how you look at it. Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax both play large roles in this story (much larger than the Granny Weatherwax appearances in the previous novels anyway) and it made me realise how much I missed them.
On the edge of your seat, suspenseful, with mind blowing twist and turn this book is well worth a read for any avid reader… No collection is complete without this title amongst it and one you read into the first few pages you will not be able to put it down. 5 stars!!!!
The third book in this series within a series. This time Tiffany has gotten in trouble by making the mistake of catching the eye of a god. If she doesn't figure out how to dump him nicely the earth will have eternal winter. of course the wee free men are back again and always hilarious. I always loved the witches before in Prachett's discworld and here you really get to see more of them. A really good book.
This is the third in the Tiffany Aching series. And you can just hear the scottish accents dripping off their tongues. It's not as smart as the first two, but entertaining enough.
Tiffany is a witch in training, and entering her teens. There's peer group pressure, there's feelings for boys, and of course not doing the magic, which is magic in itself.
Get the two others and then read this one.
