Twelve-year-old villain, Artemis Fowl, is the most ingenious criminal mastermind in history. His bold and daring plan is to hold a leprechaun to ransom. But he's taking on more than he bargained for when he kidnaps Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon (Lower Elements Police Reconnaissance Unit). For a start, leprechaun technology is more advanced than our own. Add to that the fact that Holly is a true heroine and that her senior officer Commander Root will stop at nothing to get her back and you've got the mother of all sieges brewing!

Artemis Fowl is the start of one of the best series ever written. My sister and I have become addicted to these books and can hardly put them down. I have to say the charactor Mulch Diggums is so funny he always steals the show from Artemis and Holly Short! Of course Butler is always there ready to make some comment or just to shoot something. Foaly the centaur is always full of sarcastic remarks which always make me laugh out loud. I haven't yet met a person who didn't like Artemis Fowl and I doubt that I ever will.
What a magnificent book! The thrilling, clever storyline, the magic and mesmer with techno and Foaly - this mix of great ideas literally blew me away (well, metaphorically literally). Artemis Fowl, child genius, has plans. he's young enough to believe in the fairies which live in the centre of our earth and old enough to take advantage of this situation...
Was a magnificent read. It had a pounding storyline that captivated and enthralled me. The writing was amazing and clear. I really enjoyed the book. The book left me feeling and satisfied and contented I would recommend this book for all. It is definitely worth buying.
Being the first book in the series, it is a wonderful introduction into the life of Artemis Fowl - the 12 year old genius. It gives a different look at the world of fairies, a nice step up from fairy tales for the eager young reader. Easy to read and follow, really engaging characters - and there are other stories to read after you've finished the first one! I loved the fact that there is a code along the bottom of each page - which can be deciphered - this theme follows through the other books too - with the codes changing. Excellent Read!
the thing that has made artemis fowl such a world wide hit is that, even though it was a book originally aimed at ten to eleven year olds, it is so darn clever and eoin colfer has poured so creative genius in it it can even rival the amazing (dare i say it?) harry potter series. artemis fowl is only twelve years old, but he has a plan: to kidnap a fairy in order to get the fairy ransom gold and restore his family fortune
Ahh, the book that spawned four sequels (so far) and an entire empire of loyal artemis followers. i had doubts about going into this book, not being a big fan of 'fairy stories', but this was not at all what was expected. there is a reason why this book is so famous. read it and see
In Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer, young prodigy Artemis Fowl II wants gold. And, as a twelve-year-old criminal mastermind, he knows how to get it. In order to retrieve one ton of twenty-four-carat gold, he abducts Captain Holly Short, a fairy of the LEPrecon Unit. Along with his manservant Butler, Artemis encounters a digging-and-entering dwarf, a one hundred and eighty kilogram troll, and a bio-bomb capable of wiping out every single living thing in his entire mansion. Eventually, Artemis comes out with about half the money he originally was hoping for. Artemis Fowl is a perfect fantasy for anyone interested in a good book.
Artemis Fowl is a great book. It has great action, adventure, heroes, villains. Eoin Colfer is a great author using an elegant but easy to read style. Artemis Fowl is 12 year old genius who has discovered the existance of fairies but these fairies arn't as nice as the ones in fairytales. Great compelling story.

There was a huge cloud of dust where the troll burst in! Do you like action packed books with a hint of suspense in them? If so, you should put down whatever book you're reading and read Artemis Fowl. In a thrilling adventure, Artemis Fowl captures a magical fairy and demands a ransom. The fairies then try some devious tactics such as sending in extremely brutal, non-sentient animals to slaughter Artemis, leading to one unthinable ending.
Overall, reading this book is a great way to spend your time. This book should be for kids (and adults) ages 9 and up. this book would definitley satisfy anyone who reads it.
