The first book in the immortals quartet. Daine is a girl plagued by her past - with her mother killed by bandits and only her pony Cloud to keep her company she runs from Galla to be taken on as an assistant horse handler. But things will look up for her - having lost the home she used to love, she is soon to find another.

I have only just discovered the books of Tamora Pierce, and I wish I had sooner. It is rare to encounter such imagery and a flow of imagination. Every girl, in their heart of hearts wishes she could talk to animals, and Daine the heroine can do just this. A beautiful, wild story that any fantasy reader will enjoy.

this is another in the immortals seiries, about the gifted daine who can talk and understand animals. she really ius good to read about, because who hasnt wished at some stage that they ciould talk to animals! this is a good read for anyone interested in magica and medieval times, also in a bit of fighting and stuff/.

Daine has no gift but she has magic a strange magic wild and unharnessed. She can talk to the animals and they see her as one of them. Daine's magic is found out by the leaders of tortall and she finds uses for her wild gift that makes the animals the messingers of her friends so that her friends of the wing claw and scale can fight for their land as well!

THis is a girl kick butt book. Diane who has a knack with animals is looking for a new life as her own has been destroyed by bandits. The natural daughter of a god she has some interesting powers and this book is her journey to not only a new life but to powers she could only dream of. This was the first book of Tamora's that I read and I have been hooked ever since. Tamora is a master.
