Finally, Alanna has achieved her goal. She has been knighted, Duke Roger is dead and she has shown herself as a woman. In this book, she travels deep into the Tortallan desert, where she meets the Bazhir tribe. What she sees appalls her, and she is horrified by the poor living conditions the female Bazhirs are in. In an unlikely plot twist, Alanna then becomes leader of the tribe. To get back on her path as a knight, she needs to train three new shamans to take her place. To her grief, one of her apprentices is destroyed by his thirst for knowledge. Alanna's first doubts of her relationship with Jon creep into the mix.
I enjoyed this book, but it did not live up to standards set by books one and two. Many events are foreseeable and the story is a little slow at times. However, it is a good read, and is worth finishing, if only to get to the final book in the quartet.
The third of the 'Song of the Lioness' quartet. If you have enjoyed the first two installments of the series, you will also certainly enjoy the third. Following on where the story left off, Alanna has gone off adventuring with Coram, and far from a peaceful stroll in the desert, she instead becomes a shaman! A great, and engaging story.
I loved the Bazhir - but then, anyone would. I liked the quick start to the story, too many stories seem to take forever to get to the point. I thought the fact that Alanna's fairytale romance failed to work out was both realistic and well contrived, and the way that Alanna's stint at shaman training did not work out as well as she wished made Alanna's chjaracter even more real. Exceptional!
Alana is now finally a Knight. Exposed as a woman by the kings' evil brother Duke Roger, whom she then kills, Alana decides that it will be prudent to leave the capital for a while. What she is also running away from is her turbulent relashionshhip with Prince Jonathon; and her confusing feelings for her friend George- King of the Theives. Now she and her good friend Coram are ready for an all new adventure as Tamora Pierce cleverly brings a whole new way of life to being in this excellent book.
Newly knighted, Alanna rides for the desert in search of adventure. Captured by the Bloody Hawk tribe, she must challenge ancient tribal customs if she ever hopes for freedom. But how can she convince the tribe to change, when their powerful shaman cries hourly for her execution? Tradition demands she prove her worth in a magical duel … to the death.
This is the third book in one of the best series ever, by the best author ever. I can not say enough to recommend not only this book, but anything by Tammy. I would recommend her in general to 11 – 14 year olds and mainly girls because female heroines are her specialty. She isn’t just limited to that age group though, I am 21 and I can still pick up one of her books and be totally sucked into the worlds and adventures she creates.
Another great thing about her is that any book she writes it is always set in one of two worlds. One is Tortall (Song of the Lioness is set here) and the other is Winding Circle. So you get to see how past main characters are going. This is the order I recommend these books be read. You don’t have to read them in this order if you don’t want to, each series can stand alone. But if you read them in this order you get the behind stories of why certain things happen.

Though she has finally realised her dream of becoming a knight in the third book of this series, Alanna's secret is out! Seeking adventure in Toratall's desert, Alanna is not disappointed and soon finds herself becoming the first woman shaman to a desert tribe known as the Bazhir.
This book is a little more gritty than the first two, with a lot of fighting scenes that I personally felt were very well described and exciting. Alanna also focuses on her magic gift, which proves to be interesting to say the least!
All in all, though this isn't my favourite in the series, I throughly enjoyed it nonetheless!
Newly Knighted Alanna the Lioness is now out in the world seeking her adventures like she always wanted. After killing her enemy the evil Duke she has taken to the desert to overcome the consequeses of what she has done, also she finally learns to come to terms over a long term fear - her gift is now bigger and stronger then ever, and no matter how much she pretends that it isn't there, it still is. Then one day she is called upon to use her powers and she must put her fears aside and fight for her life!
Join Alanna in the third book of the song of the lioness quartet, you will not be dissapointed!
This is the third book in the Songs of the Lioness Quartet and now Alanna is finally the knight she dreamed to be, as well as the first Female knight in all of Tortall. In this book we follow Allan's adventure as she adopted into the a tribe of Bazhir known as the Bloody Hawks and turns their camp upside down and inside out, as she starts to train two girls to be Sharman (Magic users in the tribe that protects their people). Alanna also becomes aware of the fact of just how much of a female she is when Price Jonathan asks her to be his queen. Just as good as the first two, this book slows down a little and doesn't cover as many years as the first two books do, which allows us to see more of how Alanna grows.
Alanna, newly knighted as the first woman knight has left the palace and all of her beloved friends to go on adventures. She wants to see the world and travel to places she's only seen on maps. Alanna and Coram, her loyal friend since she was born travel all the way to the desert where the people known as the Bahzir live. While Coram and Alanna are fighting off a band of hillmen the Bahzir come and take them to the tribe of the Bloody Hawk. "Let her prove herself worthy of a man." This is what she does by defeating one of the strongest men in the tribe.
the third book in the series follows after allanna as she faces her first year as a lady knight, what perils are in store for her as she travels in to the desert to get away from memories and guilt for what she did to duke roger, can she survive? or will this battle be too much for her?
