A colourful compilation of 36 drawing, painting and printmaking activities for the 5-7 year old age group, using easily obtained materials. Activities include discovering treasure, texture garden, jelly bean jar, splatter painting, nature prints, bubble prints, and insects blots. The book includes recipes for media, safety notes, a section on understanding the colour wheel, and ideas to inspire young artists. Each activity has illustrated step-by-step instructions, as well as variations for each activity, cross-curricular activities, display ideas, and reflection questions. The book encourages creativity and the author believes that everyone should be able to participate in making art without fear: “the essence of producing art is in acquiring and demonstrating a different personal response – not the ‘right’ answer.” An excellent resource for teachers and very useful for encouraging creativity at home.
