About the Author

Jared Diamond is a professor of geography at the University of California, Los Angeles. He began his scientific career in physiology and expanded into evolutionary biology and biogeography. He has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. Among Dr. Diamond's many awards are the National Medal of Science, the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, Japan's Cosmos Prize, a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, and the Lewis Thomas Prize honoring the Scientist as Poet, presented by Rockefeller University. He has published more than two hundred articles and his book Guns, Germs, and Steel, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.

You are asking me how I enjoy my latest purchases??

My last purchase was made in February and I have not received my purchase yet - still waiting for it to arrive - I will not make any more purchases via Fishpond and many Friends are disappointed with the way how orders are handled.
Sorry to say; but like I said my last purchase is waiting since almost 3 month to arrive.

An incredibly interesting book which focuses predominantly on the environment causes of societal collapse, with a pertinent message for today's world where globalisation means that the actions of one society can have multiple impacts on the welfare of other societies, even those that are geographically far removed from them. There is even a chapter about how Australia has both plundered much of its land for agricultural use, and how it has developed environmentally responsible mining. Well worth a read, and definitely food for thought.
