About the Author

Sandra Barnett has an MA from Auckland University, an M.Mngmt (Communication Management), a Post-graduate Diploma in Business and Administration (HRM) and is undertaking a PhD from Massey University. Sandra is currently President of the New Zealand Communication Association and Programme Leader of the Bachelor of Applied Communication at Manukau Institute of Technology. She was a member of the writing team for the prescription for 140 Business Communication 2005. Sandra regularly presents papers at conferences of the New Zealand Communication Association, the Association of Business Communication, and other international conferences on communication and organisational studies. Her research interests are interpersonal communication, organisational communication and e-communication, and she has published research papers in these areas. Susan O'Rourke has an MA (Hons) from Victoria University of Wellington, is a former secondary school Head of English and Senior Dean, and is currently Head of Undergraduate Programmes in the School of Communication Studies at AUT University. She has co-written Effective Business Communication in New Zealand, 3rd edition (Pearson, 2003) and Human Communication, New Zealand edition (2000). She regularly presents papers at the New Zealand Communication Association conferences and Tertiary Writing Network colloquia and is a member of the European Association of Teachers of Academic Writing and the Australian Association of Writing programmes. She has recently completed a curriculum development project for the Sultanate of Oman. Her research interests are business communication, intercultural communication, quality assurance in higher education, the teaching of writing, and New Zealand literature.
