About the Author
Jamie Oliver has worked with some of the world's top chefs and now runs his own restaurant, Fifteen. He lives in London with his wife Jools and their two daughters. I like his food but found the other cookbooks a bit too 'posh' for everyday cooking. This one has great food and ingrediants I can find!! Its also a good springboard to developing the recipes for your own style of cooking.
There are photos of cutting techniques, good fish and vege and types of meat.
It really is a cooking school without the f wordor the smell of things burning! He explains so much in a simple way that it gives you confidence to try new things.
And I bought mine from Fishpond - some one was selling it.. so not too expensive either.
Worth every penny.
definitely a book everyone should invest in. want the professionalism of a tv chef but don't want to train with the horrible hours and the stinking pay? then don't hesitate, this book is one you should read definitely but BEFORE you buy any of his other books. you need the basics first and this has it all
This is what a first year apprentice cheff learns in one book. jaime olivers cookbooks are simply amazing. there is a recipe in here for every occasion. i get it out whenever i have guests over for dinner and i always get compliments on the meals and they're always eager to know what the recipe is and where they can find it! if you have his other books then this is a must have
Really easy to follow book - with straight forward recipies with varying degrees of difficulty. Contains dinner party recipies - to a late lunch in 10 minutes. More of a cooking manuel. Loads of tips and advice from what equipment to have in your kitchen to how to buy fresh ingredients. A no frills, no gimmicks book. Excellent - every kitchen shoudl have one.
A much more user-friendly cookbook than many of the celebrity gourmet chefs. In this cookbook, Oliver also provides instruction on how to find your way about the kitchen and how to choose the right cut of meat and right tools to make preparing your meals easier. Full of personality, it has many recipes that can be easily prepared by the average home cook. Still not an everyday family cookbook, in my opinion, but certainly very interesting and useful.
I’ve loved all of Jamie’s books, rather than setting them out like instructions for a video recorder, he infuses his own creativity and tries to get the reader to get in touch with their intuition a little for cooking. A bit of this and a bit of that and there you go – a meal fit for kings, this seems to be his philosophy. Who am I to argue? It works!
Jamie Oliver is an amazing chef, and this book certainly displays his culinary talents. If you only buy one Jamie Oliver book, make it this one! Jamie explains about the different cuts of meat, and includes a lot of simple and yummy recipes that are suitable for family cooking.
Jamie Oliver really is amazing, he writes with flair and passion, and this book is no exception to his far ranging talents. This book is useful and interesting, packed full of ideas that are simple as well as delicious and exciting. I really recommend this book, but recommend that you source it from somewhere where it costs less that $100!
