I picked up this book at a Whitcouls 50% off paperback sale 10years ago. It is an old friend that is always there when you have run out of new books to read. It is my apsolute favourite book of all time. It's got time travel and a love that is so bone deep it leaves a mark on your soul. Oh to have what Claire and Jamie share (sigh). Diana Gabaldon rips every emotion out of you as you read this book, you share each character's step in their journey with them as if you where standing beside them. Be prepared to cry, laugh and be angry. When you finally put the book down at night (or very early morning) a sense of peace and dreams of Jamie :-) come your way. I found myself wondering what C and J were doing while I was doing the household chores, they seem that real. Make sure you have book 2 before you finish. If you dont you will feel a great emptiness until you can read them again. I have already pre ordered Echo in the Bone (book 7). Enjoy

I can't recommend this highly enough. An engrossingly story, written in an engaging style, shot through with subtle humour and heartfelt emotion. A fantastic start to an amazing series

A passionate love story. Something to dive into and get lost in. The relationship between Claire and Jamie is vividly depicted. They have the kind of love young girls (and grown women!) fantasize about. This is one of my favourite books ever; I unreservedly recommend it.

Absolutely LOVED Cross stitch. It is one of the best books I have read.
I was so “Sucked” into the story as it has it all – Romance, Histroy, Action, Heroes and Villains, Sex etc.
Once I got past the first couple of chapters, I could not put this down book and cannot wait to start the next book/s!

For me this book is quite reminiscent of Ken Follett’s Pillars of the Earth. Gabaldon has a delicate way with words while still managing to be vividly descriptive, captivating, and downright believable. I felt myself scouring for solutions to the heroin’s problems and rejoicing with her in victories. The amount of research the author had obviously done to put together such a great story was well worthwhile and really boosted the readability for such a great story. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend to anyone who likes a historical drama.

I went into a bookshop one day and decided after having read Twilight that I needed more romance in my life- and the Outlander series definitely delivers that! Cross Stitch, though making a slow start, is one of those books you just can't put down! Gabaldon is truly an ingenious writer, going from the historical perspectives to human emotions and issues, plot twists, and lots of good sex : ) I'm up to the fourth book of the series and cannot wait to see what happens to all the characters by the end. Highly recommend you read it if you enjoy books that suck you in one many levels.

Absolutely loved this book. Claire Randall is such a vibrant and strong willed woman, especially for her time, 1946. She has survived being a nurse in WW2, and is also happily married to a history professor, who's expertise is the 18th century, Jacobites, in Scotland.
The plot thickens when Claire steps through Stonehenge 'like' stones in Scotland and has time travelled back to 1744, the Jacobite period. There she meets her husbands ancestor Jonathan Randall, whom her husband has been studying intensely.
Along her travels she also comes across Jamie who shows her a love that is so passionate, and leaves Claire torn between her husband she can't go back to, and this young, handsome, strong Scot who is stealing her heart and soul.
I would highly recommend this book. I am reading the other books in the series and am thoroughly enjoying these as well. Definitely one of my favourite books of all time.

Get past the time travel, and it is a book that has grabbed me, and I have lent to so many people. It is just divine, I am in love with Jamie Fraser, if only he was real. For a great yarn, I would recommend this. Don;t let the size of the books put you off either.

This book is awesome! Unlike most books where one thing goes wrong and then it gets fixed and they all live happily ever after, this one continues to keep you reading because so much keeps happening! Its a great book!
