The Caldecott medal-winning d'Aulaires once again captivate their young audience with this beautifully illustrated introduction to Norse legends, telling stories of Odin the All-father, Thor the Thunder-god and the theft of his hammer, Loki the mischievous god of the Jotun Race, and Ragnarokk, the destiny of the gods. Children meet Bragi, the god of poetry, and the famous Valkyrie maidens, among other gods, goddesses, heroes, and giants. Illustrations throughout depict the wondrous other world of Norse folklore and its fantastical Northern landscape.

Reviews
"Out of print for many years, 'Norse Gods and Giants' has been very handsomely reissued by The New York Review Children's Collection and retitled 'D'Aulaires' Book of Norse Myths'. Featuring a sturdy sewn binding, the book arguably represents the pinnacle of the d'Aulaires' achievement as storytellers and artists." --"The New York Times Book Review"

This is a fabulous book of Norse myths, beautifully presented and very good quality. Because this is a reprint of a much older book, it has a lovely old fashioned feel to it with it's great illustrations and wonderful language. This book has been in my house for a couple of weeks now and my children are still poring over it and talking about their favourite gods and myths - what better recommendation could the book need? If you are looking for a book of Norse myths that will stand the test of time and entertain children of all ages then this is the one to invest in.
This book is spectacular! It was recommended to me for teaching the Norse myths and I, in turn, would highly recommend it to anyone else.
The Norse myths are, of course, very dark and can be too intimidating and scary if not presented well. In this collection, the style of writing is straightforward and informative, which keeps them from being too frightening, but is also very evocative.
And the illustrations are incredible!
I will definitely have to invest in some more of the DÁulaire's books.
