This book created one of the biggest stirs in the Christian community, I had ever seen. It was so berated that I was almost afraid to read it. However after some time, and reading some other Dan Brown novels, I bit the bullet and waded into the fictional story of Da Vinci's secret code.
I found a delightful novel that had suspense, drama and intrigue. Dan Brown has written a novel to lure in the unsuspecting, while making even the staunchest in their faith, re-evaluate what they believe and why.
Do I believe any of it's true? Of course not, but that's why it is listed as a novel. Those who have turned this book into some sort of religious icon, have missed the point and played into a great advertising technique, which has been very effective.
Some of the scenes are quite graphic in their description and I have to admit, I shuddered at some of the self flagellation described in one of the scenes in particular. The thought that people subject themselves to such punishment in the name of religion was hard to fathom.
Great mysteries are alluded to, in this fictional novel and I think that perhaps, there lies its appeal. We long to know the unexplained and the mysterious. So even if it is just a story, we will grab hold of it, trying to find some hidden knowledge.
This is a good read but please bare in mind, it is only a story.

Everyone knows what The Da Vinci Code is about. It has been talked and argued to death, Tom Hanks starred in the movie. Yes, it has theories about Christianity etc but PLEASE. Take it as what it is. A bloody brilliant work of fiction. Intelligent, fast-paced, a mixture of crime, intrigue and drama. This is possibly one of the best books I have ever read in my entire life, and believe me, I have read many. People now are choosing not to read it because it has become commercialized. That is just silly. It is a really wonderful book that takes on science, history and religion and mixes it with a plot thats set to surprise you and get you thinking. Masterful. People need to just give it a go due to that alone, not because the Pope was against it, or that the movie tanked. Great book, buy it, read it, love it.

Is there anyone out there who has not read this book yet?
If you are one of the select few who hasn't, I envy you.
Is it a literary masterpiece? No.
Is it a good read? Absolutely, it is a fantastic read that leaves you repeatedly thinking "just one more chapter, then I will go to bed".
There are so many reviews of this book, it seems pointless to talk about plot and characters.
Read it, you will love it!

An awesome book filled with action and conspiracy, just what a good book needs to capture the peoples attention!
It certainly struck a nerve with the church.... maybe more to the story than Dan Brown depicted??

The Da Vinci Code, while being mildly entertaining, is not what one might call 'brilliant writing'. Dan Brown resorted to using cliffhangers at the end of each five-page-long chapter in order to keep people's interest. Why this book is so popular is totally beyond me - it is in the same order as the cheap paperbacks you buy when you want to spend a few days not thinking at all. If you like good books, don't buy this one.

I was unable to put down this amazing book! Fast paced and ever satisfying, Brown weaves an amazing tale of seemingly Biblical proportions. The ending tied everything up and left me craving more of his writing. Well worth the controversy! I enjoyed the diversity of the characters, as this is a subject not often written about. It had great educational benefits, as even though the conclusion had been proven wrng, everythign is from a factual basis.

A very suspensful read filled with riveting eye opening information on christain/catholic religion. Is the religion really what we know it to be today? It goes against the grain and makes you question this along with giving a very exciting put-the-pi…e-together thrill ride.
Great writing.
