PreS-K-A little boy finds that he can imagine he is anything in the world as long as he is with his father. In well-calculated verse, he fantasizes about being a crab, a bird, a snail, sand, and more: "I am a rock on Daddy Island/I can stay very very still./Still as a mountain, still as a hill./Strong and steady, steady and still./I am a rock and I'm stiller than still." The brush, ink, and watercolor illustrations evoke a dreamy, nostalgic feeling. A small, monochromatic illustration on the left shows the pair as they interact in the "real" world, while on the facing page the youngster's imaginary world is in full color. The story highlights a special relationship in which an adult is the springboard from which a child can leap into unbridled possibilities. A delightful selection to share one-on-one or with a group.-Linda M. Kenton, San Rafael Public Library, CA Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
