It was the revelation of the millennium: witches, werewolves, vampires and other supernaturals are real. Fast-forward 13 years: TV reporter Delilah Street used to cover the small-town bogeyman beat back in Kansas, but now, in high-octane Las Vegas - which is run by a werewolf mob - she finds herself holding back the gates of Hell itself. But at least she has a hot new guy and one big bad wolfhound to help her out...
Sherrilyn Kenyon called this book ‘fabulous’, and Kelley Armstrong describes it as ‘a wonderfully written story with a unique take on the paranormal’, and it is all that. I just couldn’t get into it, or warm to its central character, Delilah Street, paranormal investigator. I don’t know what is about the book, whether the style of writing irritated me, even though the novel is very well written, or just because I didn’t particularly like Delilah, even though she’s brave and strong and true, and hey, she even likes dogs! Maybe I was just having a bad day, because this book is good. It really is. It just didn’t ring my bells, even though the premise is interesting: that the secret is out about the existence of witches, werewolves, vamps etc. Delilah is a TV reporter in Las Vegas, which is run by a werewolf mob, and she finds herself holding back the very gates of Hell with the help of a hot guy and a big bad wolfhound. I really liked the wolfhound. And please take this review as a personal one. The book is good, the plot fine, the writing taut. Even if it wasn’t the book for me, it might be the perfect one for you. If you like the Kelley Armstrong ‘Bitten’ series, you should like this novel. Then again, I loved ‘Bitten’.
