Jack Reacher's gallant attempt to help a woman with an ungainly load of dry cleaning leads to kidnapping and murder in this classic by "New York Times" bestselling author Lee Child. Reissue.
Reviews
Jack Reacher is in both the wrong and the right place at the same time when FBI Special Agent and daughter of the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Holly Johnson is abducted from a Chicago street. It is the wrong place because Reacher, a former army major drifting around the country, is kidnapped as well. It is the right place because only he has the instincts to foil the complex, deadly plan of the kidnappers, a Montana militia group headed by a charismatic, brilliant, but psychotic leader. Child's tale, very well read by Dick Hill, engrossingly portrays Reacher's efforts to manipulate the captors; the behind-the-scenes maneuvering of the FBI, the army, and the White House; and the many unexpected roadblocks thrown in his path. Child devotes too much time, however, to the predictable rantings of the militia. Recommended for public libraries.‘Michael Adams, CUNY Graduate Ctr., New York

Oh, what fun! You get grabbed and sucked in to the story from page three! Kidnapped by mistake helping a girl with her dry cleaning, a long road trip in a van where he has to figure out her story and how they are going to get out of this mess, and dumped at a wilderness camp for americans that have checked out from their government and the american way. He's sexy, intelligent, clever, strong, honest, simple, and amazing! Great stuff.

Lee Childs 1st novel about the loner drifter Jack Reacher is amazing. This book begins an addiction that most readers will begin. Lee Childs introduces a character that doesn't want to be loved but readers do anyway ex military police with a dangerous sexy edge. An important mans daughter is kidnapped but she is lucky as JAck is caught in the middle. HArd nosed action with a bit of thriller thrown in for good luck. beware if you read this one you'll want more.
