Dragondrums is a similar sort of story to Dragonsong/Dragonsing. A young man with musical talent has the puberty thing hit. He ain't singing soprano anymore.
So, off he goes wandering on adventures, gets into trouble, and makes friends with a fire lizard, and takes up drumming, eventually settling down.
Piemurs story is one of my least favourite of the dragons of Pern series. I find him relatively annoying, but he does have redeaming qualities such as his friendship with Menolly and with MasterHarper Robinton. That said, this is not a bad book, and fits some gaps in the series quite nicely. It was definaely better as part of a recent reread of the Pern books.
