second book in the Inheritance trilogy. Continues in the adventure of eragon, Saphira ( eragon's dragon) and Arya. Eragin has defeated the Shade and also has lost Murtagh. After swearing fealty to Nasuada, Eragon, Saphira, and Arya travel to the Elve's land where a mystery man awaits. Eragon learns many more skills in this book and his feelings for Arya deepen. a surprise awaits at the end of the book. Recommended. Can't wait for the third

My son preferred this book over the first. He couldn't believe someone found it disappointing. For him the inclusion of Eregon's brother Roran was a bonus as he gave an insight into the journey that Carvhall had undertaken to escape the empire. The final battle scene was a particular favourite as the presence of both Roran and Eragon played out with an interesting twist.

I found the second book somewhat of a disappointment. The book was predictable, and so the big revilement at the end didn't surprise me in the slightest. Despite this, I did enjoy how the characters had grown, and how Roran was bought back into it. I so feel in love with him. I recommend this to people who have read the first book and want to follow on with the story.

This second in the series is an improvement on the first of the eragon books, most likely due to the author growing up a little between books. He should consider himself lucky to have been spotted as a talent at such an early age. Perhaps the experience of producing the first has had a beneficial impact on the author. I quite liked this one, but never got interested by the first and read this on the recommendation of a friend. Quite good.

I luv this book, I think it was much better than the first, even though that was fantastic. Its full of the things I love, such as elves and Eragon trying to master the sword. Its telling of Roran, his cousin , I also love because he must protect his whole village with just his strength and not a dragon to do all the work.

I liked this book a lot better than the first. So much infact that I stayed up till 7am reading it! I adored the first book so I guess that says a lot for this one. As I was reading Eldest I found myself thinking that the level of writing seemed to have matured prehaps with the maturity of Christopher Paolini rose slightly. It was brillant. It was great to learn more about Ellesmera and the lives and society workings of the elfs and also to follow Eragon through his next adventure in this book.

This is a brilliant continuence of the first book and in some aspects even better than the first. The twists and turns of this book are impressive and will leave the reader wanting more. Some found the ending a little predictable but I believe they are just kidding themselves :)
Another first class novel from another first class author!

A fantastic follow up to the firsst book Eragon. Hang for the next one, this is a must have series. With the first book all ready a movie, this is a great set to get any reluctatant reader fired up and looking for more. The author has grown and matured not that his first book showed any lack of maturity.

I think Paolini has really come into his own with this book, the extra experiene he has gasined is obvious in that this book isn't over written as the last one was, it still has a depth and level of detail that I think is astounding coming from a teenager. The book covers the next part of Eragon's journey, he comes into more power and is foreced into a battle he doesn't want. Eagerly awaiting the nxt instalment.
