Beautiful Lucinda (Luce) Price is banished from everything she knows after a mysterious fire leaves her friend Trevor dead and Luce shouldering the blame. She is forced to board at a decrepit reform school where students are under the constant watch of cameras and must go without cellphones or Internet access. Grief-stricken by Trevor's death and horrified by her new surroundings, Luce is also plagued by sinister, terrifying shadows that appear wherever she goes. The remote gothic setting provides the standard backdrop for the crux of the story, first in a planned series-the romantic feelings Luce develops for the elusive, unpredictable, and rather unlikable Daniel. Aside from the evil shadows, the plot can be summed up with a single word: pining. Luce longs for Daniel in various ways-dreaming of him, digging up information, trying to talk to him, experiencing rejection, then trying again. Some readers will pine right alongside Luce, but others may feel that Kate spends too much time on unrequited love and too little on forward movement in Luce's relationship with Daniel and the mystery of what, exactly, Daniel is. Ages 12-up. (Dec.) Copyright 2009 Reed Business Information.
Gr 8 Up-Luce must spend her senior year at reform school after her boyfriend dies in a mysterious fire. She suspects that the dark shadows that have tormented her all her life had something to do with it. When she meets supernaturally gorgeous Daniel, she feels a familiar longing, making her believe they have met before. Although Cam is clearly interested in her, Luce only wants Daniel, who runs both hot and cold. He tries to keep Luce at a distance, telling her that the truth would kill her as it has many times before. The first chapter is gripping and foreshadows the supernatural elements to come. The plot revolves around lovers who find one another, only to lose one another over and over again in a story that spans centuries. Instead of vampires, though, these are fallen angels. Many elements are not resolved, such as the cause of the fire and why angels are at this school. Still, fans of supernatural romance will be lining up for this book despite its flaws, and begging for a sequel.-Kris Hickey, Columbus Metropolitan Library, OH Copyright 2010 Reed Business Information.

Loved this book! I was a bit skeptical in buy/reading another 'teen romance' after a few failed attempts at the genera but as a huge fan of Twilight I thought I would give it a go...and was not disappointed.
The story revolves around Lucinda (Luce) Price who is sent to a reform school called Sword & Cross, after a freak accident with her boyfriend that landed her on probation. Here she meets two gorgeous boys Daniel who she is drawn to immediately, and Cam the gorgeous popular boy who tries his hardest to win Luce. Little does she know that she and Daniel are star crossed lovers damned to meet every 17 years. Their meetings always result in her death...except this time something different.
The twist...both Daniel and Cam are fallen angels who have been fighting over her for centuries. My only criticism with the book is it leaves way too much unanswered...the only answer you get is you will find out later meaning next book.
Fallen is a four part series Torment is currently being written and due for release in September 2010. Also a movie in the works having the rights being sold within 2 days of the books release can't wait for both! Angels are definably the new vampires!!!!!

horrible, horrible, horrible. Lauren Kate is a very bad writer. Nothing really happened much in this book at all, I mean the story idea and plot was fine, but she just can't write. You just don't get any understanding of the other characters in the book. HORRIBLE. And people saying it's better then Twilight? ah.. no. You people must really just like horrible books.

Fallen had me reading non stop. I felt like i had to keep turning the page that something would happen on the next page. It was great but at times actually annoying. Fallen is a mysterious novel. The character Luce is thought of as crazy, so she's sent to a special school (this school is like you would not believe, i would never, in my life, willingly go there, read to find out why). She sees things no one else does, she is thought to have killed her ex boyfriend. But when Luce lays eyes on the mysterious Daniel she feels a deep connection between them. She feels as if they have met before, in some time or place, yet she can't name it and he deny's it. Whenever she is in the room with Daniel it's like he finds a way to pick on her. This just sends her (and the readers) completely driven to find out what his problem is. I'd recommend it to those who heart twilight and those who are looking for an intense story you don't want to put down. I'd say it's suitable for anyone. My mum even read it and she liked it (and was also annoyed). Hope you pick this book up. :)

Fallen is definately a great read. It is a beautiful story. I liked this book a lot more than I liked twilight etc. It had a lot more meaning than the whole romance kind of thing. Truthefully it went a little fast for me. But on the other hand it was good that it got straight to the point. This is definately one of my favourites. I would reccomend it to ANYONE. Whatever your into just have a look at this book because its really something different that I think anyone will enjoy :) Really cant wait til Torment... Counting down the days :)

Angels are the new vampires for 2010! I loved this book & couldn't put it down until the last page was read. Beautiful gothic romance makes for an even darker tale than the recent burst of vampire fanfare. A classic love triangle between one girl & two 'fallen' angels (well maybe not so classic!) with unexpected twists & turns certainly leaves you desiring the next installment (due out later this year).

I read this really fast, intrigued by the storyline and expecting something to happen...however was sorely dissapointed. The story idea was a good one but just doesn't seem to eventuate, hardly any answers are given, I presume as intrigue and cliffhanger to the next one, but I was not sold on it and won't be rushing out to buy the next one.

Is true love really forever? Can it last across the ages?
In the story Hush Hush we see hope that is does. This is a stunning story of an intense love between a young human girl Lucinda and Daniel who is a fallen angel. They must fight for each other even though the odds for them seem impossible.
It is well written and will captivate you from the very first page and leave you begging for more.

In the beginning he would search for her, when he didn't find her she would find him. In every life they would come together only to be torn apart. They were in love. They were domed. Time and time again he would lose her, and she would die. Time and time again he would remember and she would forget. It was always the same. Until now...
Ever since she can remember, Lucinda has seen things no one else can. Shadows. Luce had always feared them, but they had always kept their distance. Until the day they got too close and took a life. After the 'accident' things changed. People looked at her differently, with fear, even her parents. And Lucinda was sent away.
Stepping through the gates of Sword & Cross was like stepping into another world. On her first day at reform school Luce met a boy. He was cold and aloof, but somehow mesmerising. Was she crazy or had they met before? But no matter how many times he told her she was, she was sure she was not crazy.
Fallen is the story of an age old battle, one that has been reining since the beginning of time, one that will last to the end. The fate of all eternal souls rests in the hands of a pair of star-crossed-lovers. And Lucinda and Daniel are as domed and as much in love as Romeo and Juliet.
Natural and flowing language guides Lucinda through a new and thrilling world, where the only thing that's more important than survival is love. For all those who have had enough of vampires, now there are angels. And waiting for what happens next will be Torment.
