The father's guide to the female mind-field. Why do girls giggle so much? Why does everything have to be pink? Why are they so scary once they hit puberty? How can I stop her from marrying an idiot? All this and more is revealed, with some surprising conclusions about what we think we know about the differences between girls and boys, and taking a few bulls by the horns along the way. With practical examples and case studies to help all fathers raising girls, there's particular comfort for single fathers worried about the lack of women in their daughters' lives. Whether you're a dad, a harassed grandparent, or a guardian raising girls who may not be your daughters but are your girls all the same, this book's for you. And mums will find it handy as well. If you want effective strategies instead of platitudes, real solutions instead of catch-phrases, and a book with chapters on 'What dads want', 'Girl-talk: communicating with the other side', 'Mean girls - the new cult of bitchiness', 'Every dad's nightmare: sex, drugs, and parties', 'Puberty - it's not as scary as it seems' and 'How to be a cool dad', then welcome to the real world of raising girls. I purchased this novel as a gift to my partner who often pauses to read aloud sections which relate to both his 3 year old daughter and 33 year old girlfriend. Thoroughly amusing and well worth the education he is receiving :)
My husbands really enjoying reading this book. It is the first parenting book that he has related to and decided to read right through. Both my daughter and myself are noticing the benefits!!
Nigel Latta's down to earth approach provides really sensible guidance. A valuable read for Fathers AND MOTHERS facing raising girls. I especially like the guided conversations for difficult issues like drugs and sex. A reminder that you can't control your kids, only influence them is valuable at any age.
I enjoyed the TV show, I enjoyed Mothers Raising Sons and the one about teenagers, but by the time Nigel Latta got to Fathers Raising Daughters I feel he'd run out of ideas, possibly because he doesn't have a daughter. This book lacked much substance. It was reassuring to know that others share your opinion, but it didn't come up with anything new or enlightening. He is also starting to like the sound of his own "voice" and going overboard with the clever little witticisms.
Rather than enhance this book, they detract from the message he's trying to put across. Just waiting for his next books to be printed - Grandmothers raising grandsons, Grandfathers raising granddaughters, Step parents raising step children, Children raising kittens.....
An amazing insight into a daughters mind, especially made for fathers this book can answer those head-scratching questions about a fathers daughter. Theres solutions and help for those bugging questions and ways to communicate with daughters. With real examples and case studies for fathers to read it can bring comfort to a fathers worries and a definite good read.
A very practical book written by a psychologist who has a sensible approach to parenting. This book is ideal for fathers who want to improve the relationship with their daughters. Filled with sensible advice, examples, stories and sound psycholgical principals. In my work as a psychologist I have recommended to this book to fathers who are single parents, or those who do not live with their daughters after divorce and they have all found it useful.
A girls relationship with her Dad affects the way she see's all the men in her life. The teenage years for girls can be really difficult for parents. This book will give you good advice on how to strengthen and maintain the bond and deal with problems effectively. Highly recommended.
