– Customer review on 25/04/2006 This is the 6th Dirk Pitt novel from the Grandmaster of adventure, first published in 1981...
3 copies of the North American Treaty - linking the USA, Canada & Great Britain - mysteriously disappear in 1914. The bearer of one is on a train that plunges into the Hudson River; the second is carried on a ship which sinks on the St Lawrence River; the third, held by the Canadian Prime Minister, is destroyed because it is detrimental to Canada.
Jump forward 75 years, & a historian finds a reference in one of Woodrow Wilson's letters to this treaty - could it still exist? If it did, it would still be valid - enter Dirk Pitt, international coo guy and underwaters expert, to help save the day...
I really enjoyed this one - it lacks the James Bond over-the-top qualities of the later ones - the espionage, alternative history, and suspense are great. Highly reccomended.
