The Great Gatsy has unsurprisingly become an absolute classic and offers a window into the immoral and decadent era of the 1920's. Fitzgerald, a member of the 'lost generation', describes the lives of the wealthy Tom, Daisy and Gatsby with clarity, the extreme decadence of these characters will not fail to facinate. The novel follows Nick Carraway and his move to New York in the 1920's, Nick is thrown into the social circle of the incredibly wealthy and discovers facinating secret's about their pasts. A must-read for anyone who is facinated by this era or wants to be 'in-the-know' about books that will undoubtedly go down in history.
SNOOZE! didnt enjoy this book at all, only read it coz i had to for school. not a lot really seemed to happen, at least not much of great interest. the ending was a bit shocking tho, and i quite enjoyed it. took a while to get into this book aswell, due to largely boring and hard to read characters. only reasd this if you like reading about boring people in the 20s who pretty much had nothing to do all day.
one of my favourite books, f. scott fitzgerald writes beautifully, with insight and understanding into why this age wass alluring and decieving. well crafted, this novel has three dimensional characters who draw the reader into the world fitzgerald is showing for all it's truths
I thought this was an excellent novel. The Great Gatsby deals with issues in society which were relevant during the time period in which it was written, as well as today. It is an amazingly insightful satire and every time I read it, I discover something new and facinating that Fitzgerald has to say about society.
This is a bit of a downer. Considering it is suppost to be one of the great books of modern literature I found it mundane and boring. There doesn't seem to be much of a point the story and the mystery of Gatsby isn't all that awe inspiring or even make you want to continue reading to find out. I'm glad I wasn't made to endure this in high school like I know some people have been.
Average. I found this book very, very dull and the plot more than sightly silly. If you're into the main characters endlessly emotoing painthen go for it, but otherwise don't bother.
A brilliant novel, the ultimate love story. Set in the beautiful swinging 20's in America, this is a book with a rich narrative, witty sharp banteramoungst the main characters. A story that all can relate to, one of longing and love. It is so romantic, and fanciful, that both men and women of all ages will enjoy this classic from Fitzgerald.
Very dull. Again, only because they made me. I was not at all interested in what they were up to, problems they were having, situations they got themselves into, or anything like that. He even managed to make the setting seem pretty dull and interesting. Do not get this book at all. I coul d perhaps go so far as 1.5 out of 5.
