– Customer review on 29/01/2006 Another Jane Austen masterpiece, I have to admit that, the first time I read it, it was my least favourite Austen novel. Over time, and rereadings, it has grown on me to the point where I would consider it my favourite.
It's heroine, Fanny, is not like the other Austen leading ladies. At first glance she appears spineless and sappy - but as the book goes through you realise that she is, in fact, the most perpicacious and courageous of the women in the book. A supporting cast of some odd but loveable minor characters, as well as the nosey Mrs. Norris (ever wondered where J.K. Rowling got the name for Filch's cat? Well, here it is!), make for a delightful book.
Read it. Then read it again. You will love it.
