This book is a classic, and for good reason. The writing is sublime; Fitzgerald is an absolute literary genius and his portrayal of the roaring 20's is spellbinding. The demise of the heroes is predictable but still poignant, and his clever use of symbolism exposes the corruption and decadence of the age. There is a reason this book is taught in high schools across the world, that that is because it is brilliant.

yawn, found this book a very dull read. people say its a classic but i cant really work out why. sure there was some good tales of deception in here but largely this book just left me full of questions. the characters were also a bit hard to sort from one another, and i was left a bit confused. average.

This is a bit of a downer. Considering it is suppost to be one of the great books of modern literature I found it mundane and boring. There doesn't seem to be much of a point the story and the mystery of Gatsby isn't all that awe inspiring or even make you want to continue reading to find out. I'm glad I wasn't made to endure this in high school like I know some people have been.
