– Customer review on 26/11/2007 Hard Times is both a bleak portrayal of working class life in the 1800s as well as satire against the rising myth of the self made men. Dickens’s challenges the supposed rationalism of utilitarianism, and counters the strict cold, fierce and harsh world of education and facts with satire and remarkable wit. Strong prose, vivid imagery.
