– Customer review on 01/01/2007 On War is possibly the most bought War book in history. This doesn't mean it's been read very much.
If you're an amature military historian, in the army or just plain curious, this should be the book for you. It's heavy going, so be prepared for an epic struggle and take lots of notes. It's worth it in the end.
This man took war as he found it and described it very well indeed. His book, unfinished at his death (unfortunitly - it means some of the things said were taken out of context) was the foundation of western war for a hunderd years, until B Liddel Hart.
It makes things very clear, and fills in some interesting jigsaws.
